The New Mexico Brain Injury Advisory Council promotes awareness, prevention, and provides the residents of our state with resources for people with brain injury. We believe that community -based initiatives are crucial to provide health and well-being for New Mexicans with brain injury.
BIAC provides the following educational presentations:
Brain injuries: The Invisible Injury
This presentation gives a general overview of traumatic brain injuries, the purpose of the Brain Injury Advisory Council and how it supports legislative efforts pertaining to brain injury.
Protect Your Brain
This presentation is dedicated to preventing brain injuries in young people. There are 3 different age-appropriate presentations designed for K-2, 3-5, and 6-12 grades. It discusses brain basics, New Mexico helmet law, bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, and car safety. There are pre and post questionnaires to ensure that students are absorbing the information. This is most often scheduled with our Free Helmet Distribution Program.
Traumatic Brain injury in Older Adults
This presentation gives an overview of traumatic brain injuries, mortality and morbidity for people over 65 years old, symptoms, and fall prevention strategies.
